Francesca’s Teaching Philosophy
I believe movement is a language; one that holds memory, wisdom, and the power to connect us to ourselves and to each other. My teaching is rooted in the conviction that everybody deserves a space to be seen, heard, and nurtured.
From rural communities and schools in South Africa to studios, higher education institutions, and inclusive spaces in the UK, my practice has always been guided by accessibility, care, and community.
I draw from theatre, contemporary and various African dance practices, Applied theatre and Kundalini Yoga, integrating somatic awareness, alignment, and creative expression. I see the body as a site of power and authorship; particularly the pelvis, and I aim to help participants connect with their own strength, presence, and agency. In my work, cultural roots, ancestral wisdom, and lived experience are honoured, creating a holistic and grounded approach to movement.
My teaching is gentle yet encouraging, responsive to individual needs, and informed by the philosophy of Ubuntu, which translates to “I am because we are.” As well as the Kundalini yogic sutra, “The other person is you”. Whether in inclusive community workshops, professional dance spaces, online classes, higher education lectures, or one-to-one sessions, I aim to cultivate spaces through gentle guidance, where participants feel they belong, can trust themselves, and recognise that growth, however small, is progress. Movement, for me, is not only a practice of the body but also of resilience, confidence, and connection; a way to nurture both individual well-being and collective strength.
